Looking at the experience we want to create for participants and experts alike, the key ingredient is fun. On one hand we want to expose our engineers to the fun they can have with public engagement – sharing their love and passion of engineering with participants. On the other we are as passionate about sharing the wonders of engineering with non-engineers.
Another important tick box we want for our participants is for them to realise, appreciate understand the diversity of engineering and its impact across all aspects of our lives, in the same way that we achieved this objective at our RAEI Ingenious funded Crowd Wise events in 2011/12.
A realisation that came to me through those events is that all of our event themes depended on leading edge technologies to safeguard our lives and build our future every minute of every day.
In a chat with Jaime Lozano-Parada, co-inventor with Prof Will Zimmerman at the University of Sheffield, I mentioned that following that project, I had come to the realisation that the world as we know it would grind to a total halt and plucking a number out of the hat – I naiively mooted 30 days!
How WRONG I was! Jaime said 7 DAYS – oil underpins the world, its economies and everything else that we do. For us to have oil, a MUST HAVE is oil engineering.
