Veolia are once again encouraging Sheffield’s residents to ‘Treecycle’ their unwanted real Christmas trees by taking them to any of the five Household Waste Recycle Centres (HWRCs) in Shirecliffe, Woodhouse, Gleadless, Deepcar and High Green. By taking a tree to a HWRC, the trees can be shredded and recycled into compost.
Real Christmas trees can also be collected from home as part of the bulky item collection service. The cost of the service is from £18 for up to three items. Their Communications Manager, Lynne White said, “Over 6 million Christmas Trees are sold in the UK each year of which many end up being thrown away. Christmas trees recycled at HWRC are shredded down and made into compost which is a better option for the environment”.
