Submitted our RAEI End of Award Report in December 2014 and are finalising our Steering Group report for Management Committee approval at our next meeting which, all things being equal, is planned for February.
Our report title “Fun(LotsOf)+Hard Work (Very)+ Pay (Excellent)= Engineering”reflects the many comments, observations and feedback we received from participants – please do let us know what you think of the subject header which we’re planning to use for our Steering Group Report.
As an indication of just how successful this project has been, we exceeded all project targets: recruited 37 engineers in a total of 49 public engagement slots to engage with 520+ participants against a forecast of 350 participants. People were from all walks of life, diverse social backgrounds and abilities. The best thing is the wide age range from 3 – 93. And well over 62% found our activities enjoyable or very enjoyable and had so much fun that they wanted us to come back.
Up to 3 women engineers engaged at many events; 16 BME engineers across the project and 16 industry or professional engineers; female engineers were the only target we had set. There too, our target was 5 female engineers, i.e. we achieved a 300% increase on our expectations without setting any targets for BME or industry/professional engineers.
- 17 female engineers;
- 16 BME engineers;
- 16 industry and professional engineers;
- 2 female lay people.
RAEI confirmed several times their appreciation of our useful updates, information on our events and were happy to see that, despite our challenges, things [were] going on very well.
